Getting on and climbing the career ladder, whatever your profession, definitely demands hard work; but a little bit of luck doesn’t hurt either and Ludlow born Will Jones was making his own the day he went along to South Shropshire Housing Association’s Beech Gardens site in the town and asked for a job.
Impressed with Will’s confidence and attitude, the contractor SJ Roberts, took him on for a six months’ trial and he has proved to be a real asset. So much so that he’s now been taken on a 12-month contract and is gaining experience in all areas from labouring and carpentry to electrics and groundwork.
Mark Phillips from SJ Roberts, the building contractors, said: “Will has really proved himself to be a great labourer and he deserves to be on the team. Beech Gardens has been a great site to work on, the local community spirit has been amazing and everyone has been really supportive with security, parking issues and the general upheaval that having a building site on your doorstep can create.'
Will added: 'The chance of a job has changed my life and I've gained some really good experience on site in a variety of areas, I'm hoping to pass my driving test now, so I can travel to other sites too!'
Beech Gardens will be complete early 2018 and comprises of 26 new homes for rent, including four two-bedroom bungalows and twenty-two apartments, exclusively for over 55’s who want to live independently in their own home, these properties will offer a high level of a specification and design.
