Residents at the Foyer have been gaining experience in catering with Support Worker and professional chef, Anthony Perry.
At least twice a week, a group of residents have been cooking and serving food, with one of their regular customers being the Walking for Health group, who meet at the Foyer every Monday.
To finish the year off in style the residents cooked a full, two course Christmas dinner with all the trimmings for the group, who have thoroughly enjoyed being catered for by the Trainees.
The Walking for Health group has been successfully uniting young and old for a number of years now. The group usually has around 20 walkers who meet every Monday for a gentle walk of up to 45 minutes, finishing at the Foyer for lunch and a chat, providing the perfect opportunity for older people to meet a group of young people that they would never normally socialise with.
Anthony Perry said ‘They have been a great group with a couple of individuals being particularly keen to gain experience in catering. Obviously this also helps them to learn to prepare food in a domestic environment too, which is essential for becoming independent’.
Anthony has also organised a days work experience at Dinham Hall Hotel in the new year, to further enhance the group’s learning experience.
The Ludlow Foyer, part of the Connexus Group is a housing project that provides accommodation for young people aged 16-25 who want to access training and learn how to become independent.
