Job Description

Based in Craven Arms, Shropshire

BRIEF DETAILS OF POST          

  • You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, installations and servicing of plumbing and heating systems to domestic and commercial premises as directed.
  • You will be required to install heating systems that are fired by various fuels as and when required, however, these will be commissioned by persons trained in that particular field.
  • To safely carry out plumbing repairs and installations
  • To safely carry out wet side heating installations
  • To safely carry out Renewable technology repairs and installations on Air/Ground source heating systems.
  • To satisfy tenants and other customers through courteous efficient work.
  • To maintain the Association’s assets.
  • To contribute to the overall development of South Shropshire Housing/Meres & Mosses Association’s quality housing service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To Safely make up, install and replace fittings and appliances up to but not including commissioning stage for Domestic Wet Heating Systems.
  • To Safely make up, install and replace fittings and appliances up to but not including commissioning stage for Renewable technology systems.
  • To Safely make up, install, repair and replace plumbing and association fittings and materials
  • Join pipe work including copper, lead (as required), plastic, brass and steel
  • Carry out appropriate H & S tests
  • To undertake repairs and maintenance to heating systems (Wet, solid fuel, and LPG) within regulatory requirements and within limitations of skill set.
  • Fit and change fittings, eg pumps, radiators, valves, non-gas taps, waste pipes, ball cocks, hot and cold water tanks, immersion heaters etc.
  • Ensure ventilation is in accordance with regulations
  • Fit and/or replace lead flashing and guttering
  • Install and/or repair water infeed systems
  • Install and/or unblock waste water/sewage systems
  • Balance and/or drain central heating systems
  • Estimate materials requirements
  • Competent use of a PDA for business needs
  • Maintain own tools
  • Estimate materials requirements for all above work.
  • Complete stores requisition sheets
  • To Record information which accurately describes work executed on site (this would be used in the raising of invoices to the customer) via the use of a PDA and using the current Schedule of Rates.
  • To complete weekly time sheets and vehicle sheets via PDA as required
  • To meet the customer care policy requirements.
  • To participate in the continuing development of the Total Response Team.

  • To take responsibility for the health and safety of oneself and others in the workplace.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required from time to time commensurate with the grade and general nature of the post particularly of an emergency nature.

  • To participate in the Associations out of hours/evening and weekend  call out rotas in providing emergency overnight and weekend repair cover including bank holidays.

MULTI-SKILL DUTIES

In addition to the principal duties and responsibilities described above, to carry out the following multi-skill duties:

  • To carry out basic carpentry work including fitting locks, rehanging doors, easing doors and windows, glazing, refixing floorboards and shuttering.
  • To carry out basic bricklaying duties including bricking up small holes and waste pipes, carrying out small pointing repairs (less than a square metre), slabbing small areas, replacing chimney pots and emergency roof leaks and repairs.
  • To carry out basic plastering including patching, filling small cracks and chase work, external rendering (less than a square metre), small holes in ceilings, small areas of tiling, repairs to plastic and quarry tile floors and small areas of plaster boarding.
  • To carry out basic electrical work including setting trips, changing fuses, bulbs and tubes.  This will require a basic knowledge of the electricity regulations, ring main systems and bonding/earthing.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • To be a qualified time served Plumber (e.g. relevant C&G or NVQ).
  • To hold a current valid driving licence.
  • To be conversant with all aspects of traditional and system built properties and fully conversant with the building industry.

6.   Use information technology as required to carry out the duties of the post.

7.   To participate in the Group’s out of hours call out rota in providing emergency overnight and weekend repair cover including bank holidays
