Job Description

Main purpose and scope of the job:

  • To safely carry out general building work including brickwork, foundations, paving, concreting, minor carpentry, plastering, roofing and plumbing.
  • To satisfy tenants and other customers through courteous efficient work.
  • To maintain the Association’s assets.
  • To contribute to the overall development of South Shropshire Housing Association’s quality housing service.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  1. To carry out general building duties including bricklaying, block laying, paving (concrete and paving slabs) re-pointing, replacing chimney pots and emergency roof leaks and repairs.
  2. To carry out plastering work including skimming, skim coat finishing, bonding, rendering both internal and external.  Tiling of walls and floors and plaster boarding.
  3. To undertake roofing repairs involving tiles, slates and felt, including minor leadwork to soakers and flashings.
  4. To carry out basic carpentry work including fitting locks, easing doors and windows, glazing, re-fixing floor boards and shuttering.
  5. To carry out basic plumbing work including changing washers, wc. seats, ball valves, clearing blocked drains, sealing round sinks and baths, guttering repairs and fixing emergency leaks.
  6. To estimate material requirements for all above work.
  7. To complete stores requisition sheets.
  8. To record information which accurately describes work executed on site (this would be used in the raising of invoices to the customer).
  9. To complete weekly time sheets and vehicle sheets.
  10. To meet the customer care policy requirements.
  11. To participate in the continuing development of the Total Response Team.
  12. To comply with Health and Safety Regulations.
  13. To participate on the Association’s on-call rota for out of hours emergencies both evening and weekends including bank holidays.
  14. To carry out any other duties which might reasonably be expected to be within competence particularly of an emergency nature.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • To hold a current valid driving licence.
  • To be qualified  or time served builder preferably with a relevant NVQ in the building trade.
  • To be conversant and have at least five years experience within the building industry.
