Housing Benefit

This benefit is paid to help meet the cost of housing for tenants living in social housing, and is paid through the local authority. You can claim housing benefit if you are unemployed or on a low income. If you are in private rented accommodation you may be able to get assistance through the Local Housing Allowance.

Non-Dependent Reductions

Non-dependent reductions are reductions in the housing benefit paid to a household where there is an adult living in the home who is not their partner (a non-dependent).The amount the housing benefit is reduced by will vary according to the non-dependent’s income.

Council Tax Benefit

From April 2013, changes have been made to Council Tax Benefit.

You may have to pay different amounts of council tax in different local authority areas, even when the income circumstances of the claimants may be the same.

For the rules and regulations, please refer to the Shropshire Council or Herefordshire Council websites

Council Tax Debt

Through recent multi agancy meetings with Shropshire Council, we have now agreed that if we liaise with the council's recovery team, they will look at the individual cases of debt and temporarily suspend further recovery where it is appropriate, (including temporarily suspending baliffs). This will allow our Money Management Officer time to work with tenants and arrange realistic repyament plans that include council tax debt.
